In olden days, jewellery making was a traditional work, which was transferred from generation to generation and there was no institution to teach this art properly. Most beginners in the foreign countries learn the necessary metal working processes from instructors of jewellery making courses offered by Universities or Technical Institutions. There is wide gap between demand for professional and skilled manpower and their availability in the Indian jewellery industry. This is primarily due to the lack of quality training institutes, which have a vital role to play in building up any industry. It is therefore imperative that specialized training centre be created to fill this void.
By keeping this in mind and also to introduce latest techniques in training, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mysore initiated jewellery design and technology training programs in the year 2004 in Bangalore for artisans including Differently Abled candidates with the support of World Gold Council, involved in jewellery technology promotional activities. JSS AJDTC, Bangalore has separate workshops and labs for designing casting, refining and assaying with experienced teaching faculty including staff knowing sign language.
The center has already conducted different training programs in jewellery sector sponsored by Dept. of Science and Technology, New Delhi, Karnataka State Women Development Corporation Bengaluru and under TEQIP scheme in community development programs, etc.
